Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) | framework used to describe the relationship between technology, teaching pedagogy and content knowledge. |
Pedagogical Knowledge (PK) | the actions or methods that a teacher chooses to employ that trigger new learning in students. |
Content Knowledge (CK) | the “subject material to be learned or taught.” Each content is different for each age group and course they are taking. |
Technological Knowledge (TK) | the choices of technology a teacher chooses to use as a tool to teach the lesson. It can also refer to the tool a teacher chooses to ask students to use to demonstrate their learning. |
Example of Pedagogical Technological Knowledge | Students create a Mind Map using a technology device such as iPad or Laptop |
Example of Pedagogical Content Knowledge | Students and teacher work collaboratively to create a KLW chart to demonstrate what they already know what they want to learn and come back to the chart after the lesson to review what they have learned. |
Example of Content Technological Knowledge | Students use the knowledge they have of the content being taught and create a PowerPoint or other slide show to present their knowledge and understanding of the content area |
Pedagogical Technological Knowledge (PTK) | Technological skills required for effective teaching with technology. |
Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) | the integration or amalgamation of pedagogy and content which basically covers the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of teaching |
Content Technological Knowledge (CTK) | Knowledge of how to use technology within a specific content area. |
How many domains make up the framework for TPACK | Essentially there is 3 major domains of TPACK but in some cases there can be a 4th one to consider. |
Who first introduced the PCK? | Shulman in the 1980's saying it was the missing paradigm in the study of teaching. |
