Folktale | a story originating in popular culture, typically passed on by word of mouth. |
Tragic hero | a type of character in a tragedy, and is usually the protagonist. Tragic heroes typically have heroic traits that earn them the sympathy of the audience, but also have flaws or make mistakes that ultimately lead to their own downfall. |
Epic hero | An epic hero is the main character of an epic poem that tells the story of a grand quest in which they use their extraordinary or superhuman abilities to achieve great things. |
Foil | A character whose traits contrast with those of the protagonist or another main character, thereby highlighting some aspect of that character. |
Analogy | a comparison between two things, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification |
Generalization | a general statement or concept obtained by inference from specific cases. |
Poetry | literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature. |
Objective | not influenced by personal feelings or opinions in considering and representing facts. |
Subjective | based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions. |
