Use this stack of virtual flashcards to study for the Painting final.

Watercolor A type of paint that uses more water than paint to create a transparent look.
What materials did we combine with watercolor paints to create some cool effects? Salt, rubbing alcohol, and plastic wrap.
Radial Symmetry When an image shows things symmetrical around a central point.
Dreamcatcher a small hoop that contains string or yarn, is decorated with feathers and beads, believed to give its owner good dreams, and is connect to Native American culture.
Printmaking A type of art that involves creating designs by printing them from speciality made plates.
Linoleum printmaking A type of printmaking that involves carving away the material to make the image. Ink is then rolled onto the carved surface and the object basically becomes a stamp.
Monoprinting A type of printmaking where only one unique print can be made. This single print can be made on a gelli plate.
Plate The surface or material used to create an image for printmaking.
Brayer A tool used to roll ink or paint onto the surface that will be printed.
Baren Tool A tool that is used to apply pressure to the back of the paper being printed. This can help the ink or paint transfer to the paper in some cases.
Gouge The tool used to carve into linoleum.
Bench Hook A safety device used in linoleum printmaking to keep the carving material still.
African Mask A face covering usually made with wood, paint, oil, and earth that symbolizes the spirits of animals or people in traditional African celebrations.
Why is there a gap left between two pieces of glass in stained glass art? Because a strip of lead is placed in the gap to hold the two pieces of glass together.
What is the best way to clean a paint brush? Put some soap in your hand, use the paint brush to "paint" your hand with the soap, and then rinse it off in clean water. Finish with a brush test on the back of your hand to make sure that the brush is clean.
What are the primary colors? Red, yellow, and blue
What are the secondary colors? Green, violet, and orange
What are the tertiary colors? Yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, red-violet, red-orange, and yellow-orange.
Monochromatic Color Scheme A color scheme that only uses tints and shades of one color in the artwork.
How do you make a tint? Add white to a color.
How do you make a shade? Add black to a color.
Complementary Color Scheme Colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel.
Analogous Color Scheme 3 colors that are next to each other on the color wheel.
