M02 VIDEO EDITING TECHNIQUES

PRE-PRODUCTION The process of preparing all the elements involved in a media production that occurs before shooting begins.
PRODUCTION The actual shooting or recording of a media production, video or film.
POST-PRODUCTION The last stage of the production process, where footage is edited, music and special effects are added and enhanced.
LINEAR EDITING A video editing method of putting a show together in an ordered fashion, from beginning to end.
NLE Non-linear editing - digital video editing method where edits can be performed in any order rather than in sequential order.
TIMELINE The graphic representation of a program as a matrix of video, audio, and computer-generated elements.
SEQUENCE A series of shots or scenes that includes a beginning, middle, and end (like a chapter in a book).
ROUGH CUT The first sage of editing before adding transitions and polish.
FINAL CUT The final edited version of a movie as approved by the director and producer.
RENDERING Creating a full-quality version of the material that was previously edited in a lower quality form.
TIME-CODE A unique code assigned to each frame of a video consisting of hours, minutes, seconds and frame number.
CLIP A single unit of video, audio, graphics or titles that are used in digital editing.
IN / OUT POINT In video editing, the first and last useable frame of a video clip.
