| Physiology | Study of the function of the body and its anatomical structures. |
| Metabolism | Chemical reactions within the human body that sustain life. |
| Cells | Membrane-bound unit that contains fundamental molecules of life and of which all living things are composed of. |
| Tissue | Group of cells that have similar structure and function together as a unit. |
| Homeostasis | Stability or equilibrium within a cell or the body. |
| Afferent | Conducting inward or toward something. |
| Efferent | Conducting aware or outward from something. |
| Set Point | Range of normal. |
| Electrolytes | Acids, bases, and salts. Substances that dissociate in a solution to form ions. |
| pH | Power of Hydrogen. |
| Lipids | Water-insolube organic biomolecules that are fatty acids that are soluble in organic solvents. |
| Amino Acids | Organic compound that contains a carboxyl and amino group. Are elements that make up a protein molecule. |
| Prime Mover | Muscle that directly performs a specific movement. |
| Agonist | Term applied to a prime mover, or any other muscle that directly contributes to the same action. |
| Antagonist | Directly opposes prime movers, are relaxed, rigid, with a lack of motion. They help provide precision and control during contractions of prime movers. |
| Synergist | Muscles that contract at the same time as a prime mover and compliment the primer mover by helping produce more effective movements. |
