| Homeostasis | the state of steady internal, physical, and chemical conditions maintained by living systems. |
| feedback control loop | occurs when outputs of a system are routed back as inputs as part of a chain of cause-and-effect that forms a circuit or loop. The system can then be said to feed back into itself |
| oxytocin | a peptide hormone and neuropeptide normally produced in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary. |
| anterior | nearer the front, especially situated in the front of the body or nearer to the head. |
| atom | the smallest unit of matter that retains all of the chemical properties of an element. |
| catabolism | the breakdown of complex molecules in living organisms to form simpler ones, together with the release of energy |
| electrolyte | minerals in your body that have an electric charge. |
| enzyme | biological catalyst and is almost always a protein |
| cytoplasm | the material or protoplasm within a living cell, excluding the nucleus. |
| citric acid cycle | a series of chemical reactions to release stored energy through the oxidation of acetyl-CoA derived from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. |
