Homeostasis: is the relative constancy of the body’s internal fluid environment.
What are the four basic components in every feedback control loop? Sensor mechanism, control center, effector mechanism, and feedback
What are the 4 major groups of organic substances? Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.
A protein can be categorized by its structure and placed into what levels? Primary- first level, secondary- second level, tertiary- third level, and quaternary- fourth level.
What are the three basic processes of cellular respiration? Glycolysis, citric acid cycle, and electron transport system.
Osmosis: is the movement of water through a semipermeable membrane.
Cell division by the process of mitosis is accomplished by completing through what four phases? 1. Prophase 2. Metaphase 3. Anaphase 4. Telophase
Cytokinesis: splitting of the plasma membrane and cytoplasm into two.
What are the main types of tissue? Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue.
Epithelial membranes consist of cutaneous membrane, mucous membrane and ______ ? Serous membrane
Osteoblasts: are small cells that synthesize and secrete an organic matrix called osteoid.
Osteoclasts: are giant multinucleate cells that are responsible for the active erosion of bone minerals.
The human skeleton can be divided into what two divisions? The axial and appendicular skeleton.
What is the largest and strongest bone of the face? Mandible
What are the body’s most mobile and freely moveable joints Synovial joints
Types of movements allowed by synovial joints: Angular, circular, gliding, and special.
The energy required for muscle contraction is? ATP
Three functions of muscle in the body? Movement, heat production, and posture.
