physiology study of the functioning of a living organism.
genome term for all the genetic information within the DNA of a species
cells Smallest unit of structure that carries out life processes.
Cell membrance Lipid/protein barrier. Cells are separate from external environment
organs Structural/functional units that are formed by tissues
organs systems group of organs that help each other to perform tasks
Intergumentary system Composed of skin. Forms protective boundary that separate internal from the external.
Musculoskeletal system Allows movement and support for the body
Immune system Cells and tissues that defend the body against invaders trying to get through.
reproductive system eggs, and sperm are produced
nervous system Body functions
homeostasis Ability of the body to maintain internal environment
feedback loop homeostatic response that gets sent to the integrating center
negative feedback a pathway where the response opposes/ removes the signal
positive feedback the response that the stimulus, instead of decreases/removing it.
