| physiology | study of the functioning of a living organism. |
| genome | term for all the genetic information within the DNA of a species |
| cells | Smallest unit of structure that carries out life processes. |
| Cell membrance | Lipid/protein barrier. Cells are separate from external environment |
| organs | Structural/functional units that are formed by tissues |
| organs systems | group of organs that help each other to perform tasks |
| Intergumentary system | Composed of skin. Forms protective boundary that separate internal from the external. |
| Musculoskeletal system | Allows movement and support for the body |
| Immune system | Cells and tissues that defend the body against invaders trying to get through. |
| reproductive system | eggs, and sperm are produced |
| nervous system | Body functions |
| homeostasis | Ability of the body to maintain internal environment |
| feedback loop | homeostatic response that gets sent to the integrating center |
| negative feedback | a pathway where the response opposes/ removes the signal |
| positive feedback | the response that the stimulus, instead of decreases/removing it. |
