Elements of Design for Creating Digital Slideshows

TermDefinition
Contrast place different things side by side to create an interesting effect
Contrast making one color stand out from another color
Alignment use grid lines to carefully place items
Alignment align text with images
Proximity how close together or far apart objects are placed
Proximity grouping related elements together
Repetition using the same fonts/colors/template
Repetition being consistent throughout the entire presentation and with each slide
White Space helps the audience focus on essential elements
White Space refers to the blank space on a slide (it does not have to be white)
Color choose colors with purpose
Color colors invoke feelings
Animation random animations are distracting
Animation don’t overload the slideshow with animations
Photos choose high resolution images - larger than 640x480
Photos choose photos with purpose and that relate to your content
Fonts select only TWO fonts, one for headings and one for body text to keep consistency
Fonts text should be big enough to be read by a person with mediocre eyesight at the back of the room
