Digital Footprint | Your digital footprint is the trail of 'electronic breadcrumbs' you leave behind when you use the internet. It can include the websites you visit, the photos you upload and your interactions with other people on social networks |
Cookies | A cookie is a piece of data from a website that is stored within a web browser that the website can retrieve at a later time. Cookies are used to tell the server that users have returned to a particular website. |
Geolocation | Identification of the geographic location of a user or computing device via a variety of data collection mechanisms. Typically, most geolocation services use network routing addresses or internal GPS devices to determine this location. |
Metadata | A set of data that describes and gives information about other data. |
Data | Data is information that has been translated into a form that is efficient for movement or processing. Relative to today's computers and transmission media, data is information converted into binary digital form. |
Spreadsheet | An electronic document in which data is arranged in the rows and columns of a grid and can be manipulated and used in calculations. |
Browser History | Browsing history is a list of recently visited web sites. The concern here is more about privacy than general security. If you do not delete your browsing history, then anyone with access to system may be able to see what sites you visited. |
Digital Literacy | Having the skills you need to live, learn, and work in a society where communication and access to information is increasingly through digital technologies like internet platforms, social media, and mobile devices. |
Blog | A regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style. |
Dossier | A collection of documents about a particular person, event, or subject. |
Derogatory | Showing a critical or disrespectful attitude. |
Social Networking | The use of dedicated websites and applications to interact with other users, or to find people with similar interests to oneself. |
Viral | . If a video, image, or story goes viral, it spreads quickly and widely on the internet through social media and email. |
Profile | A file or group of files stored on a user. These files may contain preferences, settings, contact information, credit information. A profile allows the user's settings to be restored when that user logs back into the computer, network, or service. |
Privacy Settings | Are controls available on many websites and apps to limit who can access your profile and what information visitors can see. When online profiles are created, it's often assumed that they will be private by default. |
