Learn Some Basic Terms For Digital Footprinting

TermDefinition
Digital Footprint One's unique set of traceable digital activities, actions, contributions and communications manifested on the Internet or digital devices.
Cookies Small files, often including unique identifiers that web servers send to browsers.
GeoLocation The identification of the geographic location of a user or computing device via a variety of data collection mechanisms.
MetaData A set of data that describes and gives information about other data.
Data Individual facts, statistics, or items of information, often numeric.
Spreadsheet A computer application for computation, organization, analysis and storage of data in tabular form.
Browser History The list of web pages a user has visited, as well as associated metadata such as page title and time of visit.
Digital Literacy An individual's ability to find, evaluate, and clearly communicate information through typing and other media on various digital platforms.
Blog A discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries.
Dossier A collection of documents about a particular person, event, or subject.
Derogatory To lessen the merit or reputation of a person or thing.
Social Networking The use of dedicated websites and applications to interact with other users, or to find people with similar interests to oneself.
Viral Relating to or involving an image, video, piece of information, etc., that is circulated rapidly and widely from one internet user to another.
Profile A short article giving a description of a person or organization.
Privacy Settings "The part of a social networking website, internet browser, piece of software, etc. that allows you to control who sees information about you".
