Computer Science

Computer science is the study of computation, automation, and information.

What is computer science? Computer science is the study of computers and computing, including their theoretical and algorithmic foundations, hardware and software, and their uses for processing information.
What is an algorithm? An algorithm is a list of rules to follow in order to solve a problem.
What is code? Computer code is a set of rules or instructions. It is made up of words and numbers and when you put them in the right order it will tell your computer what you want it to do. You can program lots of things with code.
What are computer bugs? When you write code, it's easy to make a mistake. Coding mistakes are called bugs.
How do you program a robot? Robot is a machine you have to program it to do things. It only does what we tell it to do
How do computer games work? There are lots of types of computer games. You can solve puzzles, make things run and jump, drive a car or play a sport.
What is a computer? A computer is a type of machine. It doesn’t have a brain like us and it can’t think or have ideas, but it can follow stored instructions and do lots of useful things.
How can computers help you learn? Computers help you find things out by looking on the web. You can write a story or draw a picture. You can do math, make charts and graphs or make music and record people playing songs.
What is the internet? The internet is made of computers connected to each other around the world. Words and pictures can be sent from one computer to another. You can look at words and pictures from a computer on the other side of the world.
How can you use the internet? Computers have programs called browsers, which are used to access the world wide web (www). There are lots of websites on the internet. They are made up of webpages. A web page can have videos, pictures, words and games on it.
What are the main parts of a computer? The parts that make up a computer are called ‘hardware’. Programs which tell a computer what to do are called ‘software’. The hardware needs the software to tell it what to do.
How does animation work? Animations (cartoons) can be made with drawings and by coding.
