| Cornell note taking strategy method | Provides a systematic format for condensing and organizing notes. |
| Outlining note taking strategy method | Perhaps is the most common for of note taking; this strategy naturally organizes the information in a highly structured, logical manner, forming a skeleton of the notes that serve as an excellent study guide when preparing or tests. |
| Mapping note taking strategy | A visual system of condensing material to show relationships and importance; a diagram of major points, with their significant sub points, that support a topic; an organizing strategy used to improve memory by grouping material in a highly visual way. |
| Charting note taking strategy | A great subject matter that can be broken down into categories, such as similarities / differences, date/event/impact, pros/cons, etc. This method works best if students are able to identify categories and draw a table prior to the lecture. |
| Chronological order | A way of organizing that puts information in sequence according to time. |
| Deductive (direct) order | Start with a generalization, and then support it with facts, research results, examples, and illustrations. |
