Name and define the inside parts of a computer

CPU or Processor Is the brain of a computer
Pentium Brand of processor in a computer
Hard drive or disk Is storage on a computer that contains all the information
RAM Is short for Random Access Memory: short term memory.
USB Universal Serial Bus: used to connect all kinds of external devices such as add printers, mice, keyboards.
Describe a USB port Looks like a devil's fork, one three points all with different shapes on the end.
Peripherals Whats connected outside a computer, usually with cables.
CD-ROM Means Compact Disk - Read Only Memory:can read either audio cds or data disks.
BIOS Basic Input/Output System is a software.
MODEM Modulator - Demodulator. A device thqat connects the computer to a telephone line.
protocol the rules that govern the orderly transfer of data sent.
Receiver the computer receiving the message
System software controls the operation of a computer.
Channel The media that carries or transports the message. (telephone wire, cable, fiber optic)
Information Processing Cycle the interaction of humans and computers that consist of input, processing, output and storage
Network when computers are connected to other computers that can share info. and sometimes a printer.
software programs that tell the computer what to do.
Wide Area Networks (WAN) when local area networks are expanded to include several local area networks.
output Displays the results of processing.
Control Unit the part of the computer that directs instructions.
Application software software designed to meet the user's need; perform specific tasks.
Local Area Networks (LAN) computers connected together in a relatively close location such as in the same building.
Processing Executes instructions given to the computer.
