griot | a member of a class of traveling poets, musicians, and storytellers who maintain a tradition of oral history in parts of West Africa. |
oral tradition | the stories, beliefs, etc., that a group of people share by telling stories and talking to each other |
rain forest | a luxuriant, dense forest rich in biodiversity, found typically in tropical areas with consistently heavy rainfall. |
gold salt trade | exchange of gold and salt between North and West African traders. |
sub Saharan | from or forming part of the African regions south of the Sahara desert. |
