Define EAST An educational model that nurtures independent learning wherein students identify problems in their community and are empowered to use industry grade resources at their disposal to solve those problems.
Characteristics of a Traditional Classroom Predetermined standards, teacher led, content based learning with predictable outcomes
Characteristics of an EAST environment Student centered standards, student led, project based learning with unpredictable learning outcomes and the process is often messy.
Service to self vs. Service to others Service to self are those actions that you do that only benefit you. Service to others are actions that you do that benefit others.
Define Soft skills/social skills/people skills personal attributes that enable someone to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people in a professional manner.
What is an activity? Activities are repetitive and don't get to the root of the problem and don't solve problems.
What is a project? Projects solve problems and is the way we learn skills in EAST.
The C in CART represents: Critical Thinking
What is meant by Critical Thinking in CART? Getting to the root of a problem, solving problems, having evidence to prove there is a problem
The A in CART represents: Advance
What is meant by Advance in CART? This is the student growth and the learning that is gained by the EAST student.
The R in CART represents: Real
What is meant by Real in CART? Real problems, right here in our community
The T in CART represents: Teamwork
What are some terms that relate to Teamwork when managing a project in EAST? Collaboration, Peer, Community, Utilizing Skills, Sharing Workload, communication, blending talents, etc.
What are the 3 titles we use for females when writing letters or emails? Miss (never married), Mrs. (married) Ms. (married status unknown)
What are the 5 main parts of a formal email? Title, Greeting, Body/Purpose, Closing, senders contact information
Who is a client in EAST? Someone EAST works for
Who is a community partner in EAST? Someone EAST works with
Define and give examples of technology hardware. Technology you can touch such as computers, printers, cameras, etc.
Define and give examples of technology software. Technology such as applications and programs that hardware uses to perform tasks and commands.
Define consistency conformity in the application of something such as a uniformed approach and practice
Define collaborate to work jointly on an activity or project to produce or create something
Define respect Due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights and traditions of others.
What are the 3 main things we are expected to extend respect to at all times? People, property, and learning
Define Education in EAST. Gained learning or knowledge
Define Accelerated in EAST. Increase in amount or extend. For EAST this means we have no limitations on our academic growth
Define Service in EAST. The action of helping or doing work for someone other than your self
Define Technology in EAST. Equipment (software and hardware) developed from the application of scientific knowledge. Technology is the tools we use in EAST.
Define an Interview. a meeting at which information is obtained from a person usually through questions
Define Introduction. to lead to or make known by a formal act, announcement, or recommendation
Define Active Listening. A way of listening and responding to another person that improves mutual understanding
Define Presence. The impressive manner or appearance of a person
Define Etiquette. The customary code of polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession or group
Define Formal Register. This is the academic language from speeches, proclamations and announcements and other various forms of communication.
Define Casual Register. This language is used among friends and peers and includes informal language such as slang
Define Brainstorming. Group discussion to produce ideas or solve problems
Define being productive in EAST. This is achieving or producing a significant amount or a result.
What are the benefits of working with a team in EAST? Forming an alliance, pooling resources, and coming together for a common goal; working together as one
What are the five actions that project planning helps to eliminate? Poor planning, overambitious projects, unsustainable projects, undefined projects, unstructured project work plans
