Range of Motion
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Felxion | Decreasing the angle between the bones Bending the elbow, flexes the forearm |
| Extension | Increasing the angle between bones unbending the knee to straighten leg |
| Plantar Felxion | Pushing the foot down and away from the leg pushing on a gas pedal |
| Dorsiflexion | Pulling the top of the foot up and towards the leg pointing the toes towards the sky |
| Abduction | Moving away from the midline moving the arm out to the side |
| Adduction | Moving towards the midline squeezing the legs together |
| Rotation | Pivoting a bone on its own axis Rotating the head back and forth |
| Circumduction | Movement so that the distal end moves in a circle Shoulder joint moving so the arm draws a circle |
| Pronation | Rotating the hand/forearm so the palms face downward and thumb points medially |
| Supination | Rotating the hand/forearm so the palms face upward and thumb points laterally |
| Inversion | Turning the soles of feet inwards, towards the midline |
| Eversion | Turning soles of feet outwards and away from midline |
| Protraction | Moves part of body in anterior direction Sticking your jaw out |
| Retraction | Moves part of body in posterior direction moving shoulders back |
| Elevation | Moving up Shrugging shoulders |
| Depression | Moving down Opening mouth |
