Canvas Google Drive and Docs--Creating and Sharing, Text Basics

TermDefinition
Word processor An application used to create electronic documents. Examples are Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and Apple Pages.
Insertion point The blinking line in an electronic document that indicates where the next character will be typed.
Select To indicate for the computer what folder, file, text, image, or table the next action is going to affect.
Cut To remove text or items from an electronic document that may be placed elsewhere.
Copy To duplicate text or items from an electronic document that may be placed elsewhere.
Paste To place cut or copied data into an electronic document.
Drag and drop A way of using a pointer to move selected items to a different location.
Keyboard shortcuts Combinations of keys used to perform special actions like cutting, copying or pasting instead of by using menus or pointers
Find and replace A way of finding all instances of a word or phrase in a document and replacing one or all of them with another word or phrase without retyping.
Interface The method used to monitor and control a device or app, like dials, buttons, keyboards, pointers, screens, menus, icons, and so on.
Format To control the appearance and behavior of a document or the elements it contains, like text, images, or tables.
Select To indicate for the computer what folder, file, text, image, or table the next action is going to affect.
Orientation The basic vertical or horizontal layout of a page.
Portrait The vertical orientation of a page.
Landscape The horizontal orientation of a page.
Horizontal Side to side, like the horizon.
Vertical Up and down
Margins The gap between the edge of a page and the text or other objects on that page.
Share To make an electronic document able to be edited, commented on, or viewed by others
