Muscle Contraction

Sarcoplasmic Reticulum membrane bound structure found in muscle cells. Similar to ER. Main function is to store Ca++
Myofibrils bundles of very fine cytoskeletal filaments that extend lengthwise
Sarcomere basic contractile unit of muscle fiber. composed of actin and myosin
lactate chemical biproduct of anaerobic respiration.
Thermogenesis Process of heat production in organisms
Twitch contraction brief threshold stimulus produces a quick jerk of the muscle
Myoglobin functions as oxygen storage unit which then will produce oxygen to working muscles
Treppe gradual step like increase in the strength of contraction in a series
Tetanus sustained muscle contraction
Syncytium cardiac fibers form a continuous, electrically coupled mass
