What is an appraisal? An appraisal is a yearly meeting with an employee and their manager to talk about their performance usually talking about targets that the employee has for that year.
What is the purpose of an appraisal? To improve/build the relationship between manager and employee To improve employee performance To see if the employees targets of last year succeeded or failed
Advantages of an appraisal Identifies the strengths and weaknesses of staff​ weaknesses can be improved on by staff Can be used to award salary increases or bonuses​ Improves communication​ Future goals can be set and agreed on
Disadvantages of an appraisal employees may not take it seriously and won't commit to targets can demotivate staff with a negative appraisal takes a lot of time increased stress / work load unrealistic goals means added stress to staff
What is One-to-One appraisal? One-to-One Appraisal – generally carried out once or twice a year this would be a one-to-one meeting with your line manager.
What is 360 degree appraisal This is an evaluation of an employee’s performance that considers feedback and opinions from: line managers peers subordinates the employee themselves
What is peer to peer apprisal This type of appraisal excludes an employee’s line manager. Other workers in the same or similar position are asked to provide feedback on different aspects of an employee’s performance.
