| Shop steward | The trade union representative in the workplace |
| Office dispute | An official dispute is one which takes place after a secret ballot and notice to the union ICTU |
| ICTU | Irish congress of trade unions |
| Strikes | A complete withdrawl of work |
| Work to rule | Employees only do what is in their contract |
| Trade union | An organisation that represents the rights of employees in the workplace |
| LRC | Labour relations commitee |
| Labour court | An organisation which investigates industrial relations disputes |
| Concilliation | A process where both sides are listened to and an attempt is made to reach a mutually acceptable resolution |
| Arbitration | Both sides are listened to and a decision is imposed on them, which is usually binding |
