Industrial relations

TermDefinition
Industrial relations This refers to the relationship that exists between employers and employees in the workplace Shop steward
Shop steward The trade union representative in the workplace
Office dispute An official dispute is one which takes place after a secret ballot and notice to the union ICTU
ICTU Irish congress of trade unions
Strikes A complete withdrawl of work
Work to rule Employees only do what is in their contract
Trade union An organisation that represents the rights of employees in the workplace
LRC Labour relations commitee
Labour court An organisation which investigates industrial relations disputes
Concilliation A process where both sides are listened to and an attempt is made to reach a mutually acceptable resolution
Arbitration Both sides are listened to and a decision is imposed on them, which is usually binding
