Sale by description If goods are sold by description they must correspond to the description accurately.
Merchantable Quality All goods must be of merchantable quality. They must be fit for normal use
Redress consumers may apply to the courts for damages if a loss is suffered because of misleading practice by a business. It is the three r's : Repair, replacement and refund

the sales of goods and supply of services act 1980 this act protects the consumer. the goods must be of :merchantable quality, fit for purpose, as description and conform to sample.

The Consumer Protection Act 2007 make sure that manufacturers and retailers always act fairly and that they always tell the truth about the product or services they sell and never say, write or do anything that might fool or mislead the consumer
false economy This exists when we buy something that either costs less than another brand or seems to be better value, but turns out to be more expensive in the long term.
Small claims Procedure Allows consumers to have the complaint dealt with cheaply as long as the claim does not exceed 2000.
The office of the Ombudsman The Ombudsman investigates complaints against public bodies and, where appropriate, recommends redress.
Credit note Is a document given by the retailer to the consumer for the value of the goods returned. it allows the consumer to purchase goods from the shop in equal value
Below cost selling Is when certain shops sell popular products very cheaply to attract people into their shop
Confirm to sample A wallpaper or carpet you recieve should be the same as the sample shown to you in the shop when you ordered it
Trade Associations Represents different taders, manufacturers or retailers e.g ITAA- The Irish Travel Agents Association.
