TermDefinition
air intake system brings cool outside air to the engine. At a minimum
belts pulleys
catalytic converter component of a vehicle's exhaust system designed to incinerate polluting exhaust gas
constant velocity joint Found at each end of the drive axle
endplay a measurement of how far the axle can be pulled out and pushed in after installation. Excessive endplay must be adjusted.
engine cradle Frame component that supports the engine
evaporative emissions control system also known as an EVAP system
exhaust system Channels waste combustion gases from the engine to the rear of the vehicle
fuel system stores fuel and moves it to the engine
inertia switch shuts down the fuel pump in the event of a collision
motor mounts connect the engine to the vehicle's frame or unibody. Motor mounts contain a rubber section or are filled with thick liquid to isolate engine vibration from the vehicle
universal joints driveline components that allow the drive shaft to rotate while the suspension moves up and down
