Digital Terms

TermDefinition
Digital Footprint The trail of data that a person leaves on the internet. It includes all of their past actions and movements throughout the sites they have previously ventured.
Cookies A miniscule piece of data stored on the user's computer by the web browser while browsing a website. Used also to store the user's ID or user Name or password on the site.
GeoLocation Utilization of location technologies such as GPS or IP addresses to identify and track the whereabouts of connected electronic devices
MetaData Data that provides information for other data.
Data Information, facts , statistics accumulated for further analysis.
Spreadsheet Computer application for organization, analysis and storage of data in tabular form. It allows for more organized and plotted information
Browser History A list of previously visited sites that a user has interacted with.
Digital Literacy Ability to utilize information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both cognitive and technical skills.
Blog Regularly updated web page, usually ran by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.
Dossier A person's folder or space filled wither their own information or things.
Derogatory Showing a critical or disrespectful attitude
Social Networking Use of websites and applications to interact with other users, or to find people with similar interests to oneself.
Viral A form of news or media that is circulated rapidly throughout the internet.
Profile Visual display of a persons data associated with a specific user, or a customized desktop environment.
Privacy Settings Settings available on social networking and other websites that allow users to limit who can access your profile and what information others can look at.
