Sources of Finance

| Term | Definition |

| Bank overdraft | The bank gives the current account holder permission to withdraw more from their account than is in the account up to an agreed limit |
| Trade Credit | Purchasing goods now and paying for them later (30-60days) |
| Unpaid expenses | Delaying payment of unpaid bills and using the money to pay for other expenses |
| Factoring | Selling the debts of a business to a company for cash |
| Hire purchase | allows a person to use a good while they are paying it off |
| Term loan | A loan taken out for between 1-5 years |
| Leasing/renting | Using goods for a period without ever owning them |
| Debenture | Long term loan taken out by the business with a fixed interest rate |
| Owner/share capital | This is money invested by the owner (sole trader) or by selling shares in the business to shareholders (limited company) |
| Grants | Finance provided by State agencies such as Enterprise Ireland |
| Retained Earnings | The profits saved by a company at the end of the year |
