Spreadsheet vocabulary to know for Week 1

QuestionAnswer
Cell An intersection where a column and row meet
Active Cell the cell you can type in (enter words or numbers)
Column A vertical group of cells (up and down and labeled with letters)
Row A horizontal group of cells (left to right and labeled with numbers)
Formula Equations that calculate a value
Cell Reference Each cell is named for the column letter and row number that intersect to make it
Spreadsheet a grid of rows and columns in which you enter text, numbers, and the results of calculations
Sum Function a predefined formula for adding a “column or row” of numbers
Fill Handle can be used to copy a cell’s contents and/or formatting into an adjacent cell or range of cells
Range A group of selected cells
Adjacent Range all cells touch each other and form a rectangle.
Non-adjacent Range Not all cells in range touch each other, includes two or more adjacent ranges
