Understand Principles of Audio
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Sounds | vibrations that travel through the air |
| Sound Wave | audible vibration that travels through water or air |
| Decibels | the loudness or intensity of a sound |
| Crest | the maximum of the sound wave |
| Trough | the minimum of the sound wave |
| Wavelength | distance from crest to crest |
| Amplitude | distance from rest to crest or rest to trough |
| Frequency | number of waves to pass a point in one second |
| Pitch | quality of a sound determined by the rate of vibration. The degree of highness or lowness of a tone |
| Analog | continuous phenomena, such as microphones, video cameras |
| Sample Rate | converts electrical energy to binary code |
| Bit Rate | the number of computer bits that are conveyed or processed per unit of time |
| Waveform | a visual representation of an audio signal |
| Clip | is a short segment of audio |
| Track | an area upon which audio moves |
| Trim | removes everything from the left and right of selected audio |
| Amplify | change the volume of selected audio |
