Understand Principles of Audio
| Term | Definition |

| Sounds | are vibrations that travel through the air or some other medium |
| Sound Wave | an audible vibration that travels through the air or water |
| Decibles | the loudness or intensity of sound is measured in Decibels (dB) |
| Crest | the point that exhibits the maximum amount of upward displacement from the rest position |
| Through | the point that exhibits the minimum amount of downward displacement from the rest position |
| Wavelength | the distance from crest to crest |
| Amplitude | the distance from rest to crest or from rest to through |
| Frequency | the number of waves to pass a point in one second |
| Pitch | the quality of sound determined by the rate of vibration |
| Analog | is a continuous phenoms, such as microphones, video cameras |
| Sample Rate | the number of samples taken per second, often measured in Kilohertz (kHz) |
| Bit Rate | the number of computer bits process per unit of time |
| Waveform | a visual representation of a audio signal |
| Clip | a short segment of audio. |
| Track | an area upon which audio moves. |
| Trim | removes everything from the left and right of selected audio |
| Amplify | to change the volume of selected audio. |
| Capture | to record audio, video, or still images as digital data in a file |
| WAV | Large file size, developed by Microsoft and IBM |
| AIFF | Large file size, developed by Apple |
| MP3 | compressed file size |
| .avi (Audio Video Interleave) | created by Microsoft, it stores audio and video files |
| .ogg (Ogg Vorbis) | compressed format, popular for gaming |
