Audio Key Terms
| Term | Definition |

| Sounds | Vibrations that travel through the air or some other medium |
| Sound Wave | An audible vibration that travels through air or water |
| Decibels | The measurement of the loudness or intensity of sounds |
| Crest | Point that exhibits maximum amount of upward displacement from rest position |
| Trough | Point that exhibits maximum amount of downward displacement from rest position |
| Wavelength | Distance from crest to crest |
| Amplitude | Distance from rest to crest or crest to trough |
| Frequency | Number of waves to pass a point in one second (How Fast) |
| Pitch | Quality of sound determined by rate of vibration. The degree of highness or lowness of a tone |
| Analog | A continuous phenomena (Microphones and Video Cameras) |
| Sample Rate | The rate or frequency at which a sound is sampled to digitize it |
| Bit Rate | The number of computer bits that are conveyed or processed per unit of time |
| Waveform | A visual representation of an audio signal |
| Clip | A short segment of audio, can be combined with others to make an audio track |
| Track | An area upon which audio moves |
| Trim | Moves everything from the left and right of the selected audio |
| Amplify | Change the volume of selected audio |
| Capture | To record audio, video or still images as a data file |
| WAV | Developed by IBM and Microsoft for windows, Lossless and Large FIle SIze |
| AIFF | Developed by Apple, Large file size and lossless |
| MP3 | Compressed format, well suited for music |
| .avi | Audio Video Interleave |
| .ogg (Ogg Vorbis) | Compressed format, popular in gaming industry, open source |
