Five new counties were established between 1746-1753 due to settlers from The Great Wagon Road. Johnston, Granville, Anson, Orange, and Rowan.
These three groups traveled the Great Wagon Road to the Backcountry of North Carolina; Scotch-Irish Protestants, Pennsylvania Dutch, and Moravians.
The lord's proprietors established three counties in Carolina in 1664; Albemarle, Clarendon, and Craven
Charles II granted a huge estate to eight of his supporters. These eights lord's proprietors were; Edward Hyde, George Monck, William Craven, John Lord Burkley, Anthony Ashley Cooper, Sir George Carteret, Sir William Buckley, and Sir John Colleton.
What two factors contributed to the push to colonize North Carolina from Virginia? Population increase due to fewer people dying of disease and hunger, and indentured servants reaching the end of their contracts.
Settlers from Virginia took land on what rivers? The Pasquotank, Perquimans, and Chowan.
In 1606 the Virginia Company was granted a charter to start a colony in the new world. One hundred forty four men, left aboard what three ships? Susan Constant, The God Speed, and The Discovery.
What diseases did Europeans bring that killed millions of Native people? Small Pox, Mumps, Measels, Chicken Pox, Influenza.
