Unit 1 Computer

Hardware the parts of a computer and the pieces that can be added on to it
PC personal computer; computer made for use by a single person
Laptop PC small and light enough to be used in a person's lap
Desktop a computer that is too big to carry; it must sit on the top of a desk
Software instructions that tell a computer what to do
Monitor part of the computer that shows information and what you have done
Keyboard board that let people put information into a computer, the part of computer with number and letter keys
CPU central processing unit: the main part of computer; what makes a computer work
Printer part of the computer that puts information on paper
Mouse a mouse-size tool that lets you point to information and move around on the monitor
Surge Protector keeps surges of electric power from hurting the computer
Mac a type of computer that is made by Apple Computer Company: Mac is short for Macintosh
