| Actor/Actress | A male or female person who performs a role in a play, work of theater, or movie |
| Blocking | The planning and working out of the movements of actors on stage. |
| Center Stage | The center of middle of the stage |
| Character/Characterzation | The development and portrayal of a personality through thought, action, dialogue, costuming, and makeup |
| Climax | The point of greatest dramatic tension in theater work |
| Comedy | A theatrical work that is intentionally humorous |
| Cue | A signal, verbal or physical, that indicates it to the actor. |
| Dialogue | The conversation between actors on stage. |
| Director | The person who oversees the entire process |
| Downstage | The stage area toward the audience |
| Dress rehearsal | The final few rehearsals prior to opening night in which the show is run with full makeup and costumes |
| Gesture | An expressive movement of the body. |
| Improvisation | No script on the spot |
| Monologue | A long speech by a signal character |
| Musical Theater | A type of theater containing music songs dance |
| Pantomime | Acting without words though movement |
| Play | The stage representation of a story; a dramatic composition |
| Playwright | A person who writes a play |
| Props | Items carried on stage by an actor or items used on set |
| Proscenium | Frame of the stage |
| Rehearsal | Practice sessions in which actors and technicians prepare for public performances |
| Run-through | A rehearsal moving from start to finish without stopping. |
| Script | The written text of a play. |
| Stage | The area where actors perform |
| Stage Crew | The backstage technical crew responsible for running the show-move set pieces |
| Stage Manager | The directors assistant in charge of the backstage |
| Stage Left | The left side of the stage from the pov of the actor |
| Stage Right | The right side of the stage from the pov of the actor |
| Theater | To imitate or represent life in performance for other people. |
| Tragedy | A theatrical work that focuses on great suffering |
| Upstage | The stage area way from the audiece |
