| Formula Bar | a bar at the top of the Excel window that you use to enter or edit values or formulas in cells or charts. Displays the constant value or formula stored in the active cell |
| Name Box | box at left end of the formula bar that identifies the selected cell |
| Dialog Box | contains additional commands and options for the group |
| Task pane | is a window that contains additional commands and can stay open and visible while you work on the worksheet |
| Mini toolbar | appears automatically based on tasks you perform |
| Menu | contains a list of commands |
| Submenu | a list of additional commands associated with the selected command |
| Key Tip Badge | instead of using the mouse you can press the ALT key on the keyboard to display a key tip badge |
| Text | used to place titles such as worksheet titles |
| Range | a series of two or more adjacent cells in a column or row or a rectangular group of cells. For example the group of adjacent cells B4 |
| How to enter numbers as text so they are not calculated | use an apostrophe ‘1994 |
| Marquee | when using auto sum there is a moving border around the proposed range. The moving border is the marquee. |
| Source Area | the cell ranges that you consolidate in the destination area you specify. Source areas can be on any worksheet in a workbook |
| Destination/Paste Area | the range of cells that you select to hold the summarized data in consolidation. The destination area can be on the same worksheet as the source data or on a different worksheet. A worksheet can contain only one consolidation. |
| Relative reference | both column and row references are relative; when copied to another cell |
| Fill Handle | the small black square located in the lower-right corner of the heavy border around the active cell. |
| Format a WS | to emphasize certain entries and make the worksheet easier to read and understand. |
| Cell Style | the characteristics of a cell |
| Active Cell | the cell into which you can enter data |
| Format #’s | change the numbers to currency |
