| Term | Definition |

| Art board | The area that contains the printable part of the artwork |
| Objects | Any shape, image, or text that can be edited |
| Lines | Open ended path with two anchor points |
| Anchor Point | Basic component of paths |
| Line Segment | part of a line that has anchor points on the ends |
| Path | made up of one or more line segments, connected by two or more anchor points or nodes |
| Open Path | One or more paths of which the start and end points are not the same |
| Closed Path | Continuous path that has no beginning or end |
| Shapes | Geometric tools that allow creation of primitive shapes |
| Transformations | scaling, rotation, skewing (shearing), and reflecting objects to change their appearance |
| Stacking Order | The order of how objects are arranged on the art board |
| Selection Tool | Selects an object or group of objects |
| Direct Selection Tool | Selects individual components in order to edit an object |
| Stroke | The visible outline of a shape or path |
| Fill | To put a color, gradient, or pattern into an object |
| Swatches | Named color tints, gradients, and patterns |
| Gradients | Smooth transition from one color to another |
| Patterns | A repeated decoration |
| Drawing | Using shapes or other tools to simulate the experience of drawing on paper |
| Pen Tool | Uses anchor points and paths to allow to create lines and shapes |
| Bezier | Curved segment of a path that uses handles to control |
| Image Trace | A tool in a vector program that will take a raster image and convert it into paths |

| Point Type | Line of text that begins at the point that is clicked |
