Industrial Relations The relationship between the employer and employees in an organisation.
Causes of Industrial Relations Conflict: pay, working conditions, technology, redundancy, unfair dismissal.
Pay Claims A demand made by employees to their employer for an increase in pay.
Inflation The increase in the cost of goods and services from one year to the next.
Types of industrial action (legal): official strike, all-out strike, work to rule, token stoppage, overtime ban.
Types of industrial action (illegal): unofficial strike, wildcat/lightning strike, political strike.
Overtime When employees work more hours than their standard working week.
Industrial Relations Act 1990 Introduced to improve industrial relations in Ireland and to help to resolve industrial relations disputes.
Workplace Relations Act 2015 An independent body that provides a range of industrial relations services to employers and employees.
Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) A = Information B = An advisory service C = Conciliation D = Mediation E = An adjudication service F = Codes of practice
Misconduct Unacceptable behavior pf an employee in the workplace.
Unfair Dismissal age, religious or political beliefs, race, trade union membership, pregnancy, gender, member of the LGBT community, member of the Traveler Community.
Unfair Dismissal Act 1977-2015 prevent employees being dismissed from their role for unfair reasons.
Discrimination When one person is treated less favorably than another is, has been or would be treated in a comparable situation.
Employment Equality Act 1998-2015 Applies to temporary, full- and part time employees in both the public and private sectors. Eg/ equal pay, training and promotion.
