Understanding Research Paper Format
| Term | Definition |

| Bibliography | A list filled with cited works |
| Bookmark | A reference point that you name and identify for future reference |
| Caption | A line of text that describes an object |
| Citation | A note specifying the source of information |
| Endnote | A citation placed at the end of a document |
| Footer | Is at the bottom |
| Footnote | A citation that’s at the bottom of the page |
| Header | Appears at the top of a document page |
| Hyperlink | A link to jump from one location to another |
| Hypertext transfer protocol | This is how the data is transferred to the external site through the servers (HTTP) |
| MLA style | Must be single spaced with a hanging indent and double |
| Plagiarism | Compromising your work by quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing outside sources without giving the original author credit |
| Source | Includes all the information about where a specific element of your paper comes from |
| Tab leader | Symbols that appear between the table of contents’ topic and the corresponding page number |
| Table of Authorities | A specialized type of bibliography used in legal documents |
| Table of Contents | An ordered list of the headings in a document along with the page numbers |
| Works Cited | A collection of sources that you place at the end of a document |
