Understanding Research Paper Format

Bibliography A list filled with cited works
Bookmark A reference point that you name and identify for future reference
Caption A line of text that describes an object
Citation A note specifying the source of information
Endnote A citation placed at the end of a document
Footer Is at the bottom
Footnote A citation that’s at the bottom of the page
Header Appears at the top of a document page
Hyperlink A link to jump from one location to another
Hypertext transfer protocol This is how the data is transferred to the external site through the servers (HTTP)
MLA style Must be single spaced with a hanging indent and double
Plagiarism Compromising your work by quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing outside sources without giving the original author credit
Source Includes all the information about where a specific element of your paper comes from
Tab leader Symbols that appear between the table of contents’ topic and the corresponding page number
Table of Authorities A specialized type of bibliography used in legal documents
Table of Contents An ordered list of the headings in a document along with the page numbers
Works Cited A collection of sources that you place at the end of a document
