Formatting a Research Paper
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Bibliography | contains only books and is sometimes referred to as a works cited |
Bookmark | a reference point, a location, or a selection of text that you name and identify for further reference |
Caption | a line of text that describes an object, which can appear above or below the object it describes |
Citation | a note specifying the source of information |
Endnote | placed in a list at the end of the document |
Footer | appears at the bottom of the document page |
Footnote | placed at the bottom of the page on which the citation is located |
Header | appears at the top of the document page |
Hyperlink | a way to jump from one location to another, wither within the same document or to an external location |
Hypertext Transfer Protocol | how the data is transferred to the external site through the servers |
MLA Style | bottom of a page footnote must be single spaced with a hanging indent and double spacing between each footnote while an endnote is double spaced with the first line indent |
Plagiarism | compromising your work by quoting, paraphrasing, or summarizing outside sources without giving the original author credit |
Source | includes all information about where a specific element of your paper comes from |
Tab Leader | the symbols that appear between the table of contents topic and the corresponding page number |
Table of Authorities | a specialized type of bibliography used in legal documents |
Table of Contents | an ordered list of headings in a document, along with page numbers on which the headings are found |
Works Cited | a collection of sources that you place at the end of a document |
