Lesson 8: Using Illustrations and Graphics
| Term | Definition |

| Caption | Consist of few descriptive words, and are typically used for figures, tables, and equations. |
| Crop | When you trim the vertical or horizontal edges of a page. |
| Drawing canvas | Serves as a guide. |
| Embedded object | An object that becomes part of the document and is no longer part of its original image. |
| Floating object | Word positions the image precisely on the page, and allows the text to wrap around it in one of several available formats. |
| Inline object | Moves along with the text that surrounds it. |
| Linked object | Creates a connection between the document and the external image file. |
| Scale | Increases or decreases the original height and width by a percentage. |
| Screen Clippings | Enables you to draw a box and capture and image of its contents. |
| Screenshot | Shows thumbnails of the computer's currently open windows. |
| Shapes | Figures such as lines, rectangles, block arrows, equation shapes, flowcharts, stars, banners, callouts. |
| Smart Art graphics | Graphical illustrations available from a list of various categories. |
| WordArt | A feature that creates decorative effects with text. |
