Understand digital raster graphics
| Term | Definition |

| Inches | The standard unit of measurement for the United States, and U.S. standard sized papers. |
| Pixels | The most common unit of measurement for computer screen display, |
| Points | The standard unit of measurement for typefaces. |
| Picas | One pica equals 1/6 of an inch. |
| Em space | Used to define the current point size of the font |
| Percentage | Defining sub elements of a web page as a percentage to the width of the entire web page, allowing for responsive layouts as screen sizes change. |
| Resolution | A measure of the amount of detail that is stored in a digital image. |
| PPI | Pixels per inch (the number of pixels contained in one inch. |
| On-screen Resolution | Small file size, does not need a high resolution |
| Print Resolution | Needs a larger file size, need a higher resolution |
| DPI | Dots per image, refers to the clarity of an image due to the dots of ink that makes up the picture. |
| RGB | Assigns an intensity value to each pixel ranging from 0 to 255 for each of the red, green, and blue components in an image. |
| CMYK | Assigns a percentage value for each of the process inks. Cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. |
| Aspect Ratio | Relationship of an object's width to its height. |
| Cropping | Removing a part of an image. |
| Layering | Compiling multiple pictures or objects together into one image. |
| Selections | Used to isolate parts of an image to change just those parts without affecting anything else. |
| Transforming | Changing a graphics size or dimensions through commands such as scaling and rotating. |
| Layer Styles | Special effects you apply to a layer to affect the appearance of the layer's contents. |
| Layer Masks | Method that allows you to selectively hid or reveal parts of a layer. |
| Transparency | Allows the background color of an image to be replaced or changed so that the graphic can blend into the background. |
| Fill | A color, patter, or gradient that is applied to the inside of an object. |
| Gradient | A graduated blend between two or more colors used to fill an object or multiple objects. |
| Adjustment Layers | Non-destructive layers that can be added to allow you to apply image tonal and color adjustments. |
| Filters | Used to alter the look of an image and give it a special appearance by applying special effects. |
| Clone Stamp | Samples an area of an image and then allows you to paint over another area of the image with the sampled area. |
| Blend Modes | Change the way layers interact by determining how a layer will blend with the layers below it. |
