Understanding & Managing Text Flow
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Columns | Vertical blocks of text in which text moves from the bottom of one column to the top of the next. |
| Hyphenation | when you add a hyphen to a word |
| Landscape orientation | Makes text move across the longer dimension of the page, aka a paper that is sideways |
| Margins | The four areas of white space along the top, bottom, and side borders of a document. |
| Non-breaking spaces | These move text to the next line to avoid weird breaks at the right margin |
| Orphan | The first line of a paragraph that is alone at the bottom of a page. |
| Page break | In which one page ends and a new page begins. |
| Portrait orientation | The most common orientation; text stretches across the shorter length of the document |
| Section break | Used to create multiple sections in the same document. |
| Widow | The last line of a paragraph that is alone at the top of a page. |
