Word Lesson 5

Understanding & Managing Text Flow

TermDefinition
Columns Vertical blocks of text in which text moves from the bottom of one column to the top of the next.
Hyphenation when you add a hyphen to a word
Landscape orientation Makes text move across the longer dimension of the page, aka a paper that is sideways
Margins The four areas of white space along the top, bottom, and side borders of a document.
Non-breaking spaces These move text to the next line to avoid weird breaks at the right margin
Orphan The first line of a paragraph that is alone at the bottom of a page.
Page break In which one page ends and a new page begins.
Portrait orientation The most common orientation; text stretches across the shorter length of the document
Section break Used to create multiple sections in the same document.
Widow The last line of a paragraph that is alone at the top of a page.
