1.03 Criminal laws
| Term | Definition |

| Aggravated Assult | a person that inflicts serious injury upon another person or uses a deadly weapon |
| Arson | willfully set fire to burn or cause to be burned or aid, counsel or procure the burning of any building or any structure. |
| Battery | the unlawful touching or forceful stricking of another person using a hand, weapon, or other instrument |
| Bribery | giving money or property to a public official in exchange for a favor |
| Burglary | any person who breaks or enters any building with intent to commit any felony or larceny therein |
| Contempt of Court | when a person ignores a court order or shows a lack or respect for the court |
| Criminal Act | an act that is punishable offense against society |
| Criminal Intent | intent to do something forbidden by law |
| Duty | a legal obligation to use a reasonable standard of care to prevent injury |
| Embezzlement | taking with intent to embezzle or fraudulently or knowingly and willfully misapply or convert to his own use, any money or items with monetary value |
| Felony | a crime punishable by confinement for more than a year in a state prison or by a fine more than a 1000$ or both |
| Forgery | placing a false signature on a check or another document in order to deceive or deprive someone or their property |
| Fraud | when a person or a business used deception to obtain money or property |
| Infraction | a noncriminal violation of law not punishable by imprisonment |
| Kidnapping | the unlawful removal or restraint of a person against his or her will |
| Larceny | the values of the property or goods is not more than 1000$ |
| Manslaughter | the killing of a person without malice or intent |
| Misdemeanor | a small wrongdoing such as petty theft, public intoxication, or driving, or simple assault |
| Money laundering | when illegally obtained money it put into or through a business to hide its origin |
| Murder | the intentional killing of another person. 1st degree: killing of another person either directly or though another felonious act. 2nd degree: inherently dangerous act or omission done in a reckless manor without regard to human life |
| Obstruction of justice | occurs when a person does something that hinders the court to move forward in a case |
| Perjury | occurs when a person under oath lies during a court or administrative process |
| Rape | ingaging in sexual intercurse without consent |
| Robbery | the wrongful taking of property from another person by threat or the actual use of force,violence, or a weapon |
| Simple Assault | an attempt to commit a battery against another person |
| Statuary Rape | sexual act with another person who is 13, 14, 15 years old and the defendant is at least 6 years older than the person |
| Treason | giving aid and comfort to enemies of the United States |
| Vandalism | the willful or malicious damage to property either private or public |
| Violation of Duty | breach or when you break duty |
