Design Features

Graphic Illustrations and photos used to convey meaning and add appeal
Bleed A print effect in which a color or image appears to run off the edge of a paper
Caption Brief descriptive text, usually placed near an image
Dropped Cap Enlarged character at the beginning of a paragraph
Pull Quote Quotation taken directly from the body of the article
Sidebar Smaller, self contained story alongside a larger story
End Mark A symbol used to indicate the end of an article
Nameplate Banner on the front of a document
Main Heading Title of the article usually in a larger font
Subheading Subtitles used to break up the body text
Byline Gives credit to the author or contributor of photo or article
Kicker Words positioned above a headline
Deck Placed between a headline and an article
