| aerodynamic buoyancy | The characteristic of flight which is achieved by generating aerodynamic lift and propulsive thrust. |
| Airmap | An online and app resource which allows you to enter a specific location and choose various parameters to search for current restrictions in that area. |
| AMA | A non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote development of model aviation as a recognized sport and worthwhile recreation activity. |
| AUVSI | An international organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the unmanned systems and robotics industry through communication, education, and leadership. |
| B4UFLY | Offered by the FAA, an easy-to-use smartphone app that helps unmanned aircraft operators determine whether there are any restrictions or requirements in effect at the location where they want to fly. |
| content knowledge | Generally refers to the facts, concepts, theories, and principles that are taught and learned in a specific area. |
| culture | The sum of attitudes, customs, and beliefs that distinguish one group of people from another. |
| discipline | When one uses reason to determine the better course of action regardless of one's desires. |
| droners | A slang word that refers to users of drones |
| expectations of privacy | A legal test which is crucial in defining the scope of the applicability of the privacy protections of the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution. |
| FAA | The U.S. national authority with powers to regulate all aspects of civil aviation. |
| flight simulator | A device that artificially re-creates aircraft flight and the and the environment in which it flies, for pilot training, design, or other purposes. |
| forum | Refers to a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on an issue can be exchanged. |
| "Know Before You Fly" | An educational campaign founded by AUVSI, the AMA and in partnership with the FAA that provides perspective users with the information and guidance they need to fly safely and responsibly. |
| LOS (line-of-sight) | Refers to a normally unobstructed view between an intended observer and a drone. Same as VLOS (visual-line-of-sight). |
