| Term | Definition |

| Backstage View | The view that opens when you click the File tab. It contains commands for managing backstage view files. |
| Command | An action that you preform by clicking a button or list on the ribbon |
| Dialog Box | displays additional options or information you can use to execute a command |
| Dialog Box Launcher | A small arrow in the lower-right corner of the group |
| Group | Collections of related word commands |
| I-Beam | The intersection point changes to a large "I" |
| Quick Access Toolbar | located above the Ribbon and contains commands that users access most often |
| Ribbon | contains multiple commands on seperate tabs |
| Tab | Text that papers blue when active |
| Block style | Format aligns text along the left margin |
| Insertion point | In the upper-left corner of the document is where you begin creating your document |
| Menu | List of options associated with them |
| Mixed punctuation | Requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing |
| Nonprinting characters | symbols for certain formatting commands |
| Open punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing |
| Preview | Using the scroll bar and select any template |
| Located on the file tab in backstage | |
| Repeat | Repeats you last action |
| Save | Saves their work to the cloud |
| Save As | appears when clicked in the file tab |
| Settings | shows your options |
| Template | Master document with predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles |
| Undo | lets you cancel or undo your last word command or option |
| White space | space between pages of the documents |
| Word wrap | Automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin |
