| backstage view | the view that opens when you click the file tab that contains commands for managing backstage view files. |
| command | instruction based on an action that you perform in Word by clicking a button or entering information into a command box. |
| dialog box | a box that prompts the user for additional information when executing a command |
| dialog box launcher | in some command groups on the ribbon is a small icon that opens the dialog box launcher related to that group |
| file tab | file tab on the ribbon that opens the backstage view |
| group | a set of related tools on the ribbon |
| i-beam | When you place your cursor near it, the insertion point changes to a large “I,” |
| key tip | a letter or number that appears near the key tip on screen tool when the alt key is press it activates that tool |
| mini toolbar | small toolbar appears when a mouse is selected on text object |
| ribbon | it displays commands related to the type of document or object that you have open and onscreen. |
| shortcut menu | short cut menu that appears when you right click an area or object |
| tab | is a labeled section of the ribbon it contains a group of related groups |
| quick access toolbar | a customizable toolbar that contains a set of commands on the side of the ribbon |

| save | newly created documents are saved with a specific filename closely related to the content of the document so that you can locate the file quickly |

| word wrap | automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
| insertion point | in the upper-left corner of this document is where you begin creating your text. |

| mixed punctuation | requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing. |
| non printing characters | which are symbols for certain formatting commands, such as paragraphs ( ¶ ), indents and tabs ( → ), and spaces ( • ) between words. |
| open punctuation | requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing |
| block style | format aligns text along the left margin, including the date, inside address, salutation, body of the letter, closing, and signature |
| preview | gives you an opportunity to see what your printed document will look like, so you can correct errors |
