Term | Definition |
---|---|
Backstage View | A screen that appears when you click the File Tab in Word 2016. It contains commands for working within the document, and commands for managing the document. |
Block Style | This letter format has open or mixed punctuation and is common to many business documents. This format aligns text along the left margin, which includes the date, inside address, salutation, body of the letter, closing, and signature. |
Command | An instruction based on an action that you perform in Word by clicking a button, or entering information into a command box. |
Dialog Box | A box that displays different options or information that you can use to execute a command. |
Dialog Box Launcher | A small arrow in the lower-right corner of the group that launches the Dialog Box. |
Groups | A collection of related word commands. |
I-Beam | When you place your cursor near a blinking Insertion Point, it turns into a large I, which is the I-Beam. |
Insertion Point | A blinking line that signifies the beginning of a document, where you start typing. All text you type appears left of the Insertion Point. |
Menu | Displays a list of options for when you click a command icon. |
Mixed Punctuation | A type of writing format that requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing. |
Nonprinting Characters | Symbols for certain formatting commands. They help you create and edit your document. They aren't visible when printed. |
Open Punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutation or the closing. |
Preview | Gives you an opportunity to see what your document looks like before you print it. |
This command is located on the File Tab in the Backstage. Gives you printing settings. It's the process of putting an online document onto paper. | |
Quick Access Toolbar | Located above the ribbon and contains commands that the user uses most often. You can customize it to give you commands that you want. |
Repeat | It repeats your last action in a Word document. |
Ribbon | Contains multiple commands on separate tabs. |
Save | After saving your Word document to a file, you can just click this to quick save it. |
Save As | Clicking this will ask you to save your document to a file with a specific name. After selecting a save location, the Save As dialog box lets you select a file format. |
Settings | A list of things that you can change and manipulate to how you want it in a Word document. |
Tabs | A labelled section of the ribbon. It contains a group of related tools. |
Template | A master document with a predefined page layout, fonts, margins, and styles that is used to create new documents with the same basic formatting. |
Undo | An action that lets you cancel or undo your last Word command or action. |
White Space | The space between the pages of a document. This appears as a gray area between the bottom of each page and the top of the next one. |
Word Wrap | Automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the right margin. |
