Lesson 1 vocab

TermDefinition
Backstage View A screen that appears when you click file tab, and contains commands, managing file options, and print options.
Command An instruction given when clicking a button or entering information. A button,list or other clickable option on the RIBBON.
Dialog Box Additional information that can be used to execute a command. A box that prompts or offers opportunity for additional information.
Dialog Box Launcher The Arrow on the bottom right corner of a group that opens a Dialog Box. Small icon on the ribbon that opens a dialog box related to that group.
Group A collection of related word commands.
I-Beam The cursor turns into an I-beam when placed at the start of the typing area.
Quick Access Toolbar A tool bar that contains commands that the user would use most often eg. save, undo, etc.
Ribbon The bar that contains multiple commands on many tabs
Tab A section that contains multiple commands
Block Style Aligns text along the left margin for letter writing.
Intersection point The point that is where the next letter of text will be placed
Menu A list of options related to the main command the menu is in
Mixed punctuation Requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing.
Nonprinting characters Symbols that word enters for certain formatting commands.
Open punctuation Requires no punctuation after the salutation or closing.
Preview A example of what something will look like when it's printed or displayed.
Print The command shows options of print, printer and settings like color and double sided.
Repeat The command will redo the last command/ word typed if it is deleted or undone
Save Will open the Save As screen if its the first save that you have done for that document, and then when clicked will quick save the same file in the same spot adding your new changes.1
Save As A command is the backstage view that will let you select where you want to save the document and have it downloaded on your computer
Settings The specific parameters that you may want to add when printing and formatting a document
Template A preformed and laid out document with predefined page layouts margins, font ,and styles
Undo Will delete or replace the last command or words that have been typed or deleted
White space A space between the pages of the document.
Word Wrap Automatically wraps text to the next line as it reaches the far right margin
