Lesson 1 Understanding word
| Term | Definition |

| Backstage View | A tool that offers quick access to commands for managing the document |
| Block Style | Format that contains open and mixed punctuations often used in business formatting ( a format style that aligns text to the left margin) |
| Command | Is an instruction based on an action that you perform on word |
| Dialog Box | Displays addition option or information you can use to execute a command |
| Dialog Box Launcher | A small arrow in the lower right corner of the group |
| Groups | Each tab contains several collections of related word commands |
| I-Beam | when the Insertion Point turns into a point (cursor) |
| Insertion Point | the blinking point at the upper text side of the document were you will begin creating your text |
| Menu | A list of options |
| Mixed Punctuation | Is common in business and requires colon after finishing it |
| Non-Printing Characters | Are symbols for certain formatting commands |
| Open Punctuation | Requires no punctuation after the salutations or the closing |
| Preview | gives you an opportunity to view your page before you print it |

| Quick Access Tool Bar | Located above the ribbon and contains the users most used commands |
| Repeat | this command repeats your last action |
| Ribbon | Contains commands you use while working within the document |
| Save | Saves the document |
| Save As | like save this button specifies were your saving a document to |
| Settings | a hub were you can change the options |
| Tabs | paragraph format |
| Template | A document that already have a set of settings |
| Undo | to go back to your last action |
| White Space | the part of the document unused |
| Word Wrap | word processors that moves to the next line when reaching the end without requiring you to press Enter. |
