lesson 1: understanding word

backstage view | backstage view is where you can see all the basic commands such as save as ; accessed through the file tab |
block style | block style format aligns text along the left margin including the date, and signature |
command | a command is an instruction; any button is a command |
dialog box | it displays additional options or information you can use to execute a command |
dialog box launcher | a small arrow in the lower- right corner of the group; ALWAYS lower right |
groups | a collection of related word commands |
i-beam | when you put your cursor by the insertion point and it turning into a large 'I' |
insertion point | the space in the upper left hand corner of the document where you begin typing |
menu | a list of options associated with the made command |
mixed punctuation | requires a colon after the salutation and a comma after the closing |
nonpritnitng | symbols for certain formatting commands |
open punctuation characters | requires no punctuation after the salutation, closing and signature |
preview | gives you an opportunity to see what your printed document will look like |
a command located in the file tab in the backstage | |
quick access toolbar | located above the ribbon and contains commands that users access most often |
repeat | allows you to repeat the last action |
ribbon | contains multiple commands on separate tabs |
save | its in the quick access toolbar for the first time |
save as | appears as a command listed in the backstage view |
settings | options you can change before printing or writing in the document |
tabs | a second open page |
template | a master document with the predefined page layout |
undo | a command that lets you cancel your last wod command or action |
white space | the space between the pages of the document |
word wrap | automatically wraps text to the next line |
