Understanding Word
| Term | Definition |

| Backstage View | Another way for you to create, open, save, close, share, and print your document. |
| Block Style | A style of writing where you write things on the left side of the page of your document, including name, date, and body of text. |
| Command | An instruction based on an action that you perform in word by clicking a button or entering information in a command box. |
| Dialog Box | Something that displays additional options or information you can use to execute a command. |
| Dialog Box Launcher | A small arrow in the lower right-hand corner that lets you launch the dialog box. |
| Groups | A collection of related word commands. |
| I-Beam | When you put your cursor on the intersection point and your cursor changes to an I. |
| Intersection Point | The upper-left corner of you text where your document begins. |
| Menu | A list of options associated with a group in word. |
| Mixed Punctuation | A block style in which you need to use a colon after a salutation and a comma after a closing. |
| Non-printing Characters | Symbols for certain formatting commands that help you edit your document. |
| Open Punctuation | No punctuation required after the salutation or closing. |
| Preview | An option that lets you correct your document before you print it. |
| Sending a document a document to a printer. | |
| Quick Access Toolbar | A toolbar that allows you to access the commands you use most often. |
| Repeat | A command that lets you repeat your last action. |
| Ribbon | Contains commands on different tabs. |
| Save | A command that lets you save your document to your computer/flash drive. |
| Save As | What you click when you save your file for the first time so that you can put it in a specific place and name it. |
| Tabs | Where commands are on the ribbon. |
| Template | A master document with all of your page settings already set. |
| Undo | Un-does the last change you made to your document. |
| White Space | The space between pages of documents. |
| Word Wrap | A setting that automatically wraps your text to the next line when it reaches the end of a line. |
